How Long Does a Full Handwriting Examination Take?<\/h1>\n

A full handwriting examination is going to be more expensive and time-consuming than just a non-expert opinion. An expert giving a full examination is going to give you higher quality of work.<\/p>\n

So just how long does it take to analyze handwriting for a forgery case?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I get this question all the time because everyone has a legal case. They got sued. They know someone that just passed away, and there’s a will.<\/p>\n

The answer is: It takes as long as it takes to get the evidence and to form the opinion.<\/p>\n

\nNow, the actual part of my specific work as an expert is 1) looking at the writing, 2) looking at documents and 3) doing the analysis. This could be three, four, five, or ten hours of labor looking through a microscope. However, this doesn’t take into account all the work that needs to be done for a case to even get to the analysis part.<\/p>\n

We have to get the documents from the client, verify their significance and quality, scan, assemble and label the documents, and create magnified side-by-side exhibits to be both studied by me and shown as exemplars of my analysis to the layman.<\/p>\n

Ok, so it’s a lot of work. How long does a full handwriting analysis take, from beginning to end?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Most of our cases take about seven to ten days from the moment the client gets us the documents. It takes a lot of time to assemble them into the format that we need for me to spend my hours of analysis. But that usually works great for our clients. For most cases, the turnaround time is a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

What is the part of a handwriting report that generally takes the longest?<\/h4>\n

We’ve had cases that have been on books for three or four months because the documents aren’t available.<\/p>\n

We have to stay in contact to get updates on the progress of the client trying to track down handwriting samples, or the client going through the legal motions to subpoena documents. Sometimes, we have to go out of town or to a courthouse and look at the document with a microscope. Getting the documents is the most time-consuming part.<\/p>\n

What if I need a full handwriting report done in less than a week? Is that possible?<\/h4>\n

When you call one of our experts at our website, you will ask them, “Hey, what’s your caseload? Can you get to me the next four weeks?” Because if you can give them four weeks or six weeks, you may get a break on price. But if you call our office and say, “Hey, Bart, you need to drop everything, work on the weekend, and get me a report on Monday,” we can do it, but that’s going to be three times the price.<\/p>\n

How long will my full handwriting report take?<\/h4>\n

The answer depends on these questions-<\/p>\n

How urgent is your report, how fast do you need it, and how busy is the handwriting expert that you hire?<\/p>\n

If you hire someone busy, that’s probably good because they’re professional. They’re in demand. They’re going to be more expensive. They’re going to give you higher quality work, but you may have to wait in the queue so they can get to your case.<\/p>\n

I would consider a reasonable time for a forensic document examiner to do a proper forensic analysis is two to four weeks. And if you don’t have that much time, you’re going to pay extra. They can get to it. But if you can’t get them the high-quality documents very quickly, it’s going to delay the case.<\/p>\n
