How Can You Tell if a Signature Was Cut and Pasted?<\/strong><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n

You’re looking at a document, and you recognize your signature, but you know with certainty that you never signed it. That’s one of the most unsettling experiences a person can have in a legal dispute, and it’s more common than you might think.<\/p>\n

This kind of forgery is called a cut-and-paste.<\/strong> Forgers used to use scissors and tape to cut someone’s signature from an old document and copy it into a new one. <\/span>These days, a cut-and-paste is usually done electronically and is sometimes referred to as an electronic transfer<\/strong>. <\/span>With Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and scanners, a fifth grader could do a cut-and-paste and make it look pretty authentic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
