Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions before hiring Bart Baggett or any court qualified forensic document examiner.

What kind of forgery/document cases do you handle?
All documents with handwritten items and many documents relating to age, fonts, typography, and authenticity.

How do I get my case started?
Email or mail your documents and pay the retainer/fee. Call us first for a free consultation: 1-800-980-9030.

Do I have to have originals? Can you examine photocopies?
Originals are always preferred as they provide more evidence for inspection. However, it is very common to go to court with photocopies or photographs of documents.

How much will my case cost?
See the rate sheet page or call and speak with our staff.

How many comparable documents do you need?
An ideal number is 10. Call us and we can discuss your specific situation.

How long will it take to get my official opinion?
3–7 business days is normal, depending on the number of cases ahead of you in the queue.

How do I get my documents to your laboratory?
Snail mail, drop off in person, or via email scan (PDF).

Can Bart testify in my state or country?
Yes. Bart travels nationwide and has been qualified to testify 100% of the time he has appeared in court as an expert witness.

How much do handwriting experts charge?
Most experts charge up to $2,500 as a non-refundable retainer. Bart charges a flat rate — all fees are clearly posted on the rates page.

Can I just email my document for a quick verbal opinion?
We do not render opinions without payment in advance. We will, however, review documents to evaluate if they have the quality needed for analysis. Call us first: 1-800-980-9030.

Will Bart's opinion be accepted in a court of law?
Expert witness testimony is never a guarantee the judge will rule in your favor — documents are usually one piece of a much larger puzzle. But Bart has been qualified 100% of the time.

Does Bart travel to other states?
Yes. Mr. Baggett has offices in Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Miami. Travel fees may apply but are often offset by the advantage of having a nationally recognized expert on your side.
